On 22 November 1995 a major earthquake occurred at Egypt at a depth of 10 km. The seismic event occurred at 04:15:11 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 7.2.

The estimated primary trigger of this seismic event is a convergence of planetary conjunctions on 20-21 November 1995.

From 19 to 24 November a series of six planetary conjunctions occurred, four of which converged on 20-21 and 22-23 November. The first convergence occurred when Mercury, Mars and Neptune reached a conjunction late on the 20th, followed by the Sun, Venus and Neptune less than an hour later. The major earthquake occurred a day later. The second convergence on 22-23 November involved Earth, Venus and Mars on the 22nd, followed less than 8 hours later by Mercury, the Sun and Earth. Two strong earthquakes occurred a day later, peaking magnitude 6.6 at the Kuril Islands.

On 22 November a lunar conjunction occurred with the Sun (New Moon). Three lunar conjunctions converged in the morning of 24 November.
