Mw 6.9 Near Coast of Nicaragua
updated 7 May 2022

On 9 October 2004 a strong earthquake occurred near the coast of Nicaragua at a depth of 50 km. The seismic event occurred at 21:26:55 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.9.

Critical planetary geometry converged on 2-3 October involving Mercury, Mars and Jupiter. However, considerable seismic increase did not occur until after Earth's alignment with Venus and Uranus on 6 October, followed by critical lunar geometry on 7-8 October. The earthquake was the third to occur in two days, following two strong tremors on 8 October at the Solomon Islands (Mw 6.9) and Luzon, Philippines (Mw 6.4).
