On 22 January 2019 a strong earthquake occurred in the Prince Edward Islands Region at a depth of 10 km. The seismic event occurred at 19:01:44 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.7.
A series of planetary alignments that started on 13 January resulted in strong seismic activity from 15 to 22 January. The confergence of alignments on the 16th and 22nd in particular, combined with high lunar peaks (index 19 and 16 respectively) resulted in a clustering of strong earthquakes that peaked magnitude 6.7 on 20 and 22 January.
