On 14 May 2019 a major earthquake occurred in New Britain Region, P.N.G. at a depth of 10 km. The seismic event occurred at 12:58:25 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 7.5.
Critical planetary geometry first occurred from 7 to 10 May, in particular the alignment with the Sun, Venus and Neptune, which also preceded a similar sized earthquake in September 2018. Lunar geometry peaked high on the 7th with the Sun-Mercury-Neptune alignment, after which Earth aligned with Mercury and Uranus. Despite the fact that the Moon made critical geometry on 7 and 9 May, only two low 6 magnitude earthquakes occurred. The earthquake did not occur until after the Moon aligned with Neptune on 13 May.
