On 1 August 2019 a strong earthquake occurred offshore O'Higgins, Chile at a depth of 20 km. The seismic event occurred at 18:28:06 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.8.
Critical planetary geometry occurred in particular from 27 to 29 July, which coincided with a high lunar peak. A serious seismic increase started with the next lunar peak on 31 July when a Mw 6.5 earthquake occurred in Vanuatu. This lunar peak coincided with some critical planetary geometry on 31 July and 1 August. Increased seismic activity continued on 2 August on the Southern East Pacific Rise (Mw 6.0) and Southwest of Sumatra (Mw 6.8).
