On 29 September 2022 a strong earthquake occurred east of South Sandwich Islands at a depth of 10 km. The seismic event occurred at 03:03:24 UTC and had an estimated moment magnitude (Mw) 6.7.
Major seismic activity was anticipated due to a series of critical planetary geometry from 23 to 30 September, in particular after the high lunar peak on 25-26 September. But this series of critical planetary geometry was only half of what occurred since 11 September and major seismic activity already occurred above average. At this point it very much depends on the amount of critical stress left in Earth's crust — also referred to as the condition of Earth's crust — what the seismic response will be. A high 7 to 8 magnitude earthquake could have occurred, especially after the Venus-Mercury-Neptune conjunction on the 25th.
